Below are some recollections that Frank has sent me. Perhaps others can send me more.
I imagine Frank will remember more incidents also. As you can see I haven't really figured
out how best to handle this sort of information on this website but I wanted to be sure to get
it on the site as soon as possible. I will probably come up with a better design later. I want to
know what year that the family moved to Big Bend? I believe St.George Pl. came in 1955.

The following is a retyped dedication message that our cousin Jerry Bair Jr. wrote for the Civil War Diary book he put together concerning our Great Grandpa Newton Poling's Civil War Diary. Great Grandpa Poling was Grandma Bair's dad. Anybody care to guess what Grandma Bair's maiden name was. He sent it to Bob last summer. I want to note that he writes that Harry Jr. was born in 1921 and passed away in the summer of 1934. Frank noted above he thought Harry Jr. passed away in 1933. I was surprised that Harry was four years older than Frank but I have not visited the gravesite and have no verification of the dates. I am just the messenger here. I will include a link to the Newton website that I am also setting up on the Internet. I also want to include his email address in case any of you would like to email him I bet he would be overwhelmed if he started getting some communications from us Hotzes. I hope one of us can also come up with a photo of Harry Jr. to not only put in his book but to email him a copy of one. Here is Jerry Bair Jr.'s email address: smokeebair@aol.com and the website I am building for the Newt's Civil War Diary: newton.mossyspring.com. You do not put any w's in the website address. And now here is his dedication note which is also on the website mentioned.
I would like to dedicate all the copies of
this book written for the Hotze Family, to Harry Hotze Jr., whose untimely death in
the summer of 1934 left such an empty hole in my young life. We were born in the same
year, 1921, and were playmates and most importantly, Pals.
Our two families, Hotze and Bair, lived in south St.Louis, about 2 miles apart, so
visits back and forth were numerous. Harry and I went to Sunday school together at,
"Tyler Place Presbyterian Church, on Spring Avenue. Afterwards, we would take
in the show at on of the local cinemas, usually a cowboy and Indian picture. We
were kids of the same likes and dislikes. We confided with one another and never
had any
arguments. As I look back, our relationship was unique.
I always admired Uncle Harry, Aunt Tam, and all the boys, but after "little Harry's" death,
something changed in me and I didn't care to visit anymore. It was just too hard.
I don't have a picture of Harry Jr., and it would be nice if one of the boys would
have a copy made of him and put it on the back of this page.
